Getting access to healthcare facilities in India has been a challenge for the transgender community. In response to the challenges, AMRI Hospitals took up the initiative to set up Kolkata's first in-patient facility exclusively for the transgender community.

The healthcare unit, now functional at the hospital's Mukundapur branch, is a pioneering initiative slated to expand to other Kolkata units in the future.

The establishment is the result of a collaboration with Inner Wheel District 329, a part of the international social service organisation's 'Rainbow for Inclusivity' program.
